Top Rock is Not a Joke

The Battle
The Top rock is Not a Joke battle was created in France by Funky-J & Léa and the dance company Lady Rocks. The battle aims to elevate Toprock as a standalone and complete dance discipline.

This format is part of a broad cultural movement: Funk is Not a Joke. It’s a multi-style event, which is co-organised by Lady Rocks and Funky-J. It celebrates groove dances and the musical heritage of funk, jazz, Afro-Caribbean and African-American traditions.

For the first time, Toprock is Not a Joke is featured at IBE. This unique battle format combines a jam session, cypher selection and 7 to Smoke, in a high-level, music-driven and community-rooted vibe.

Why Toprock matters
Toprock mixes elements of tap, salsa, rock, and house. It’s a blend that gives breaking its rhythm, style and attitude.
It’s a core part of breaking, and therefore an essential part of our festival.

Who can participate?
The battle is open to all dancers, with on-site registration.
