BRASSE VANNIE KAAP is a captivating and emotional documentary film about an iconic South African Hip Hop group “Brasse Vannie Kaap” (BVK) who exploded onto the music scene during the pivotal early years of the new South Africa. Various group members and a host of local celebrities (Early B, Jack Parow and more), reflect deeply on BVK’s remarkable journey and their undeniable impact. The film also takes a behind-the-scenes peek at how Grandmaster Ready D and DJ Azuhl plan an intimate tribute show in honour of BVK’s late frontman Mr Fat aka Ashley Titus. It culminates with a nostalgic reunion performance that evokes the memory of a unique and special era in South African history and celebrates the legacy of this influential group.

More on Hip Hop Cinefest and its founder:
Hip Hop Cinefest is an international festival that valorizes and promotes documentaries, fiction films, music videos, and experimental works created by artists deeply connected to Hip Hop culture, offering them a platform for networking, dialogue and divulgation.
With a “glocal” approach, the festival connects its global vision with local realities. Through spin-offs and curations, as with IBE, it adapts to various territories, promoting intergenerational dialogue, creating opportunities, and supporting urban artistic experimentation. This model builds international bridges, making the celebration of Hip Hop cinema an authentically participatory phenomenon.
